Australian harness racing: Redcliffe picks

Australian harness racing is on target again at BetAmerica on April 29 at 11 p.m ET, which is Thursday afternoon, April 30, at Redcliffe Harness Racing Club in Queensland. 

Here is our analysis for the nine-race card.

Race 1

Mitchell Dawson’s #4 Lanoch Boy has rallied more than any in this non-winners event to pick up seconds and thirds. Of the other 3-year-olds, the New Zealand-bred gelding still shows more promise. 

Race 2

#2 Perfect Feeling meets #5 Chump Chop for their mild rivalry, something most of this group is familiar with from recent contests.

For some decent action, though, we’ll back #3 Peggy Stardust. She won at Redcliffe in March against similar and was well supported in her recent scuffle against the likes of these.  

Race 3

Fresh filly #3 Chili Rocks has only been out twice and seems to be improving for Darren Weeks. She is a Pet Rock product and should continue to show the benefit of her sire as the season ensues.

#6 Sir Jujon may find his best Redcliffe route for Grant Dixon.

Race 4

Backed well last time out, #9 Newmerella Ladykay is a top-notch daughter of Mr Feelgood, with plenty to deliver from any starting point. She is already a good earner for Weeks and well to do at Redcliffe.

#3 Sugarcane should be popular with the public and give a bit of her inherited speed. 

Race 5

Huge favorite #9 Duke was all out on the outside last week, when we beat him at 12-1, only to be beaten by a 29-1 shot, as Duke finished off the board. He should do better with cover.

Another beaten well-bet pacer, #6 Guy Looks Good, is a guy looking better this time around for Chantal Turpin.

Race 6

#1 Jewel Of Peak, a sophomore daughter of Hurrikane Kingcole, gets another good chance to win her fourth race. In her last outing at Redcliffe, she found some backers, but here she may be more of a value, especially against #6 Suki Dayo, who has been sharp and beat Jewel Of Peak four starts back.

Also up for some bargain hunters is #4 Tulhurst Kate. She could get a good cover trip and let loose late. 

Race 7

Lightly raced #7 Lonestar Lad has been competitive and visits Redcliffe to strengthen his earnings. After only seven starts, Mark McNee’s gelding has been in the top three finishers 71% of the time, mostly in the win spot.

#4 Taylor Hood had a vicious journey last time out, but Ben Battle’s pacer could get a much better trip here.

Race 8

The last time he raced at Redcliffe, #4 Carter Bromac was weakened by a duel and foes closed swiftly in the stretch. With little to no pressure, the gelding could do it this time. 

Race 9

Although he has not won since December, #7 Heart Of Cooper will have a strong presence in this field, though the punters may lean elsewhere, which is good for us. Last time out, the son of Sportswriter was blocked in a crowded field and unable to shake loose until late but still finished second with a rush.
