Australian horse racing picks for Doomben and Newcastle
With the Melbourne Spring Carnival behind us, our attention has turned toward the big summer racing meetings in the tropical state of Queensland.
Doomben, one of Brisbane’s premier tracks, is the feature meeting available for BetAmerica horseplayers on Friday night, with the first race scheduled to start at 9:13 p.m. ET.
New South Wales meetings at Newcastle and Kembla Grange are also available to watch and wager on via the BetAmerica app and desktop, along with Ascot in Western Australia.
Here are a couple picks to get your night of Aussie racing action underway!
Doomben, Race 4: #4 Dominant King
To be ridden by jockey Ben Thompson for the powerhouse O’Dea/Hoysted barn, this 3-year-old gelding by Deep Field has had two starts. The second was a dominant maiden win at Ipswich, where he raced on the pace and showed a good turn of foot.
Although he will step up in class today, the manner in which he improved between his first two starts suggests he has plenty of upside.
I expect him to get the perfect run just off the speed and take another leap forward.
Newcastle, Race 6: #9 Perfect Radiance
This well-bred filly from the barn of Newcastle’s premier trainer Kris Lees is looking to make it three-for-three on her home track.
Last time out, they took her to town, where she looked like the winner a furlong out at Randwick, but was she was outgunned late by Regal Stage.
She'll step up another furlong here, which will suit her, and she’s ready to prove she is a class filly.
Good luck!
