Australian horse racing picks for Geelong and Scone
The Scone Cup Carnival kicks off in Australia tonight, with the Scone Cup among the exciting races on offer for BetAmerica horseplayers.
Because of the COVID-19 crisis, the usual big crowd of racegoers won’t be there this year, and the second day of the carnival will be held at Rosehill on Friday night.
The 2019 Scone Cup Carnival. Things are a little different this year but we are looking forward to the outstanding calibre of trainers, horses and jockeys on offer for the 2020 Darley Scone Cup & the Inglis Scone Guineas @rosehillgardens. @BigSportsBrekky @SkyRacingAU @Channel7 pic.twitter.com/syqMFh2QWr

There is also Thoroughbred racing from Geelong, Albury, and Toowoomba tonight, as well as two harness meetings.
Here is a pick for Geelong and my selection for the Scone Cup, where a huge field of runners will go around!
Geelong, Race 1: #11 Win Fall
This lightly raced filly hasn’t missed the top three in her four starts, and she looks well placed to break through for her maiden victory.
Tonight’s assignment should be a lot easier than her last race at Moonee Valley. Not a lot went her way, but she was still competitive, and hit the line strongly over six furlongs.
The step up in distance tonight will suit her, and the blinkers go on for the first time. At 9-4 on the morning line, it’s not exactly going to be a windfall if she wins, but Win Fall can certainly get the job done!
Scone, Race 7: #6 Military Zone
If you like something in a massive field like this, you’ll be able to get nice odds.
Military Zone returned from a break with a solid performance at Randwick. He was very wide around the final turn, but ran on well for fifth, beaten less than a length, in a blanket finish. One of the favorites for tonight’s race, Phaistos, finished in front of him, but Military Zone gets a nice swing in the weights tonight.
Since that run, this 4-year-old gelding has won a barrier trial at Randwick. His record second up from a break is exceptional, with three wins from four attempts.
He is going to need a little luck from the barrier, but jockey Christian Reith has the experience to overcome that.
Military Zone is a terrific win/place/show chance in the big race of the night!
