Australian racing picks for Gosford

There’s plenty of Down Under racing for BetAmerica horseplayers to enjoy this evening.

The first race from New Zealand's Woodville Racecourse is scheduled for 7:55 p.m. ET, before three Australian venues kick in from 10:25 p.m. ET — Gosford, Armidale, and Rockhampton.

Here are a couple of picks for the New South Wales meeting at Gosford.

Gosford, Race 1: #1 Shadow Colour

This lightly raced 5-year-old, from the barn of Randwick trainer Mark Newnham, has found one better in all three runs since a layoff.

He just missed at Hawkesbury last time out, after he didn't have a lot of luck, and looks well placed to break his maiden tonight at attractive 9-1 odds on the morning line.

He’ll strip fitter in his fourth run back from a break and 3 kilogram claiming apprentice jockey Tyler Schiller aboard means he’ll go around a little lighter than his recent starts.

#3 Sir Rocket looks the main danger, if you’re playing exotics.

Gosford, Race 2: #9 Wild Irish

A filly by No Nay Never, Wild Irish has only raced in bigger city races in her eight starts to date.

A trip to an easier provincial track should be the key to breaking her maiden tonight.

Jockey Brenton Avdulla will be able to put her in the box seat, and she should appreciate the rise in trip. I don’t think we’ll get those 9-2 morning-line odds, but I’ll be very happy if we do!
