Australian Picks for Rosehill in Sydney Mar. 20

EPONA STAKES, ROSEHILL RACE 3

#4 ALIFEROUS (BRENTON AVDULLA)

Current Odds: 9-1

She’s not a mare with a wonderful winning record, but Aliferous has always had a touch of class about her, and she looks set to produce now at her third run back from a break. The 9 1/2 furlongs of this is a perfect distance for her, and from the nice gate, she should get every chance to position closer to the speed than what was the case at the shorter trips she’s been running in at her past two starts. Can see her being right in the finish of this at almost double figure odds.

RANVET STAKES, ROSEHILL RACE 4

#2 ADDEYBB (TOM MARQUAND)

Current Odds: 6-4

English raider Addeybb has form around the likes of Magical, Magic Wand and Deirdre, and that is definitely good enough to be winning this edition of the Ranvet Stakes, where it’s hardly a stellar group of local weight for age gallopers up against him. He was outstanding when pushing Magical in the Champion S. (G1) last October, and he beat Magic Wand last June at the Royal Ascot meeting comfortably in the Wolferton, and of course Magic Wand came to Australia during the Spring Carnival towards the end of 2019 and won a Group 1 race. He clearly likes softer footing, that won’t be an issue here, and if he’s settled in well he really should just be too good for this lot.

GOLDEN SLIPPER, ROSEHILL RACE 7

#12 PERSONAL (CRAIG WILLIAMS)

Current Odds: 16-1

The Blue Diamond Stakes form is the form I’m keen to side with in this year’s Golden Slipper and the very well-bred filly Personal, produced a fantastic effort in it when a close up third to Tagaloa and Hanseatic, who will no doubt be two of her main dangers again here. The two colts are both single-figure odds, while you can get better than double their price with this girl. A big reason for that is the fact she drew the second from the outside barrier, but she’s likely to get back in the field, and if they fan on the turn, she might be able to find her way through without running into a heap of traffic issues. She’s ready to run a huge race here.
