Australian racing picks for Canberra and the Gold Coast

May 21st, 2020

Hopefully you’ve built a bank playing Churchill Downs today! There are plenty of opportunities to find a few winners playing Australian racing tonight, with four Thoroughbred venues available for BetAmerica horseplayers.

Here are a couple picks for two of those meetings, the Gold Coast in Queensland, and the Australian capital, Canberra.

Good luck!

Gold Coast, Race 2: #1 The Drinks Cart

We all love the drinks cart during a round of golf, and hopefully we’ll love The Drinks Cart at Gold Coast tonight!

This 2-year-old gelding is coming off a win at the Gold Coast, where he was first up from a break, and effortlessly rounded up the field to win over the short distance of 4 1/2 furlongs. He’ll be fitter for that run, and the extra furlong tonight is in his favor.

The Drinks Cart loves the track, too. From three starts at the Gold Coast, he has registered two wins and a third.

What’s not in his favor is the barrier, but experienced jockey Robbie Fradd sticks and should be able to overcome that. The 4-1 morning line odds look very attractive!

Canberra, Race 3: #10, Le Gai Soleil

This New Zealand-bred filly from the John O’Shea stable looks well placed to break her maiden tonight. She has only started once and showed plenty of ability to finish third over 6 furlongs at Gosford, after a tough run on the speed.

Le Gai Soleil contested a recent barrier trial and was doing her best work late over 5 furlongs to flash home for second, which gives every indication she is ready to win fresh.

The 7 furlongs of tonight’s race will suit her, and she is drawn well to get the lead. This race looks easier than her debut run.

Those 7-2 morning-line odds look generous. I think she’ll start closer to 3-2 and am happy to take those odds.
