Australian racing picks for Doomben and Rosehill
As spring approaches Down Under, the good horses start to make their return to the track, ahead of the big racing carnival that runs throughout October and November in Sydney and Melbourne.
Tonight, both cities have a group race. Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens hosts the Missile (G2), and Melbourne’s Flemington will put on the Aurie’s Star H. (G2).
Here are a couple picks to get your night of Aussie racing action underway.
Doomben, Race 1: #5 Eelloh
This lightly raced 3-year-old filly ran home strongly at Doomben last start, after she got a long way back. The fact she made up so much ground on what was a very heavy track bodes well for her chances tonight.
Her last run was also her first run back from a break, so she’ll strip fitter tonight. She also drops in weight, and the extra distance will suit her.
She will have to outfinish a couple horses home who beat her last start, but with expected improvement, and those attractive 11-2 odds on the morning line, I think she is worth a shot.
Rosehill, Race 6: #5 Anders
It was a pleasure to watch this Not A Single Doubt colt mature during his last campaign, when he failed to miss the board in three starts and earned successive wins.
He'll return from a break tonight for his first run as an Australian 3-year-old, and he caught the eye recently, with an impressive win in a trial race at Royal Randwick.
The team at @cmaherracing will be happy with the trial of Anders this morning! The 2YO Colt flew home on the Randwick Polytrack to win by 5 lengths 👀 pic.twitter.com/pRRhifmUNP

We know Anders can handle the heavy ground, and I think he’ll be too good for these tonight.
Good luck!
