Australian racing picks for Flemington

April 24th, 2020

The Autumn Racing Carnival in Sydney may be over, but there’s still plenty of quality racing from Australia tonight, including four stakes races at Rosehill Gardens, and last year’s Melbourne Cup (G1) winner will go around at Flemington.

Here are two picks for the exciting eight-race card at Flemington, which kicks off at 11:05 p.m. ET.

Flemington, Race 1: #7 Indictment

This 2-year-old, by North American sire Street Boss, was impressive on debut at Caulfield 14 days ago. He reeled off some of the fastest sectionals of the race and made up plenty of ground late, on a heavy track, to finish strongly for fourth. The track that day had a definite leaders’ bias, which made his run all the more impressive.

He'll the winner of that race, Diala, 5 1/2 pounds better in the weights tonight. He’ll also appreciate the extra furlong.

I don’t think he will start anywhere near his 25-1 morning-line price, but you might get double figures. Anything better than 8-1 looks like value.

Flemington, Race 4: #1 Vow And Declare

The Danny O'Brien-trained 2019 Melbourne Cup winner has his third run of the campaign tonight, at one of his favorite tracks.

You can put a line through his last start, when he didn’t handle the heavy track in Sydney.

His first-up run in the Australian Cup (G1) in March was outstanding. Despite being over only 1 1/4 miles, he ran home well for a gallant third.

Tonight he will getg a more suitable distance (1 5/8 miles), and he is back at Flemington, where he does his best work. He’s not going to make you rich, but if you can get anything better than even money, that’s value.

Hope you find a few winners!
