Australian racing picks for Gold Coast and Goulburn

With only one U.S. Thoroughbred meeting today, thank goodness for Australian racing tonight!

There are four Aussie Thoroughbred meetings and two harness meetings available for BetAmerica horseplayers tonight.

The Gold Coast and Goulburn are two of those meetings, and here are some picks!

Gold Coast, Race 3: #1 Elixir

#4 Command’n’conquer will likely start an odds-on favorite in this race, but Elixir is capable of an upset.

This 4-year-old gelding is returning from a 23-week break, but he always races well fresh and has never missed the placings in his three previous first-up runs. He will have a bit of added fitness from running in a trial at the Gold Coast just a few weeks ago.

Elixir absolutely loves this track and strung three consecutive wins together at the Gold Coast last campaign. In 10 starts at the track, he has only finished out of the money twice.

At 4 1/2 furlongs, this is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it contest, but Elixir should be thereabouts at the finish.

Goulburn, Race 2: #9 Miss Keira

Miss Keira is searching for her first win, and she looks extremely well placed at Goulburn. The 3-year-old filly returned from a five-month break at this venue two weeks ago, and after she settled toward the rear of the field, she hit the front with less than a furlong to go. Unfortunately for her supporters, fitness showed on that occasion. She was run down late and finished second.

She’ll be much fitter tonight, and the extra half-furlong will suit her. There also doesn’t appear to much resistance from the opposition. Jockey Kathy O’Hara, who rode Spaceboy to victory at Kembla Grange last night, stays aboard.

Those morning-line odds of 5-2 look perfect.
