Australian racing picks for Gold Coast and Wyong
As we gear up for a big weekend of Australian racing, which includes Day 2 of The Championships at Royal Randwick on Friday night, three Thoroughbred meetings and two harness venues are available for BetAmerica horseplayers to enjoy from Down Under tonight.
The Gold Coast, in southern Queensland, kicks off its 10-race card at 9:30 p.m. ET, and at the time of writing, the racing will be on a fast track. Wyong and Kilmore are the other two Thoroughbred venues in action tonight, and they’ll both race on a yielding surface.
Here are a couple picks to get your night of Aussie action started.
Gold Coast, Race 1: #4 Hostwin Sunlight
The phrase "always the bridesmaid, never the bride," certainly applies to this one! Well, he is a gelding, but in eight starts, he has finished second or third on six occasions, without a victory.
Hostwin Sunlight has a great opportunity to rectify this record tonight. He should settle on the pace and be strong to the line. He boxed on really well and wasn’t disgraced in his last start and should appreciate the extra furlong tonight. His 3-1 morning-line odds represent good value.
Wyong, Race 2: #6 Zanzidance
This is an identical task to her debut two weeks ago — same track, same distance, same conditions. On that occasion, she met a better horse, but ran a good time and put a nice gap on the rest of the pack for a second-place finish.

The 2-year-old filly is up against older horses, but they don’t look any better than what she came up against at her last start. She should show plenty of improvement from her debut run and be very hard to beat.
