Australian racing picks for Gosford and Ballarat

July 15th, 2020

Similar to the U.S., they race every day of the year in Australia, except Christmas Day! On any given Saturday, there are upwards of 15 Thoroughbred meetings, and just as many harness and greyhound meetings will take place across the country.

BetAmerica players are able to watch and wager on the best selection of those meetings on a daily basis, including tonight, when four Thoroughbred cards and two Australian harness racing cards are available.

Here are a couple picks for the meetings at Gosford and Ballarat.

Gosford, Race 1: #5 Aunt Belle

There’s no question the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained #7 Cicero Field is the horse to beat, but I think Aunt Belle has a decent shot at more attractive odds.

She was gallant in defeat over the same track and distance in her last start, when she found the front a furlong or so out but was collared right on the line in a tight photo finish.

This will be her fifth run in her first campaign, so she should at the very least hold her form, and it’s good to see jockey Chris O’Brien stick.

Ballarat, Race 4: #4 Lexington Lad

I’m keen to see this son of Written Tycoon stretch out, and the extra furlong tonight should suit him.

In his last start on the synthetic at Ballarat, he settled back and ran on well to finish fourth. He has the early speed to overcome the tricky gate, and he’ll be fitter after two starts.

Let’s see if he can finish over the top of them down the stretch at those juicy 15-2 morning-line odds.
