Australian racing picks for Kembla Grange and Werribee

May 6th, 2020

There’s plenty of Australian racing tonight, with four Thoroughbred meetings and two harness meetings for BetAmerica players to get involved with.

The night kicks off with racing from Kembla Grange, which is just south of Sydney in the state of New South Wales.

Here is a pick in one of the early races at that track and another for the Victorian meeting at Werribee.

Kembla Grange, Race 2: #6 Spaceboy

This front-running 3-year-old from the Gary Portelli stable is resuming from a 14-week break. He showed he is ready to launch fresh, though, when he won a recent barrier trial at Warwick Farm by seven lengths.

The horse has always shown a lot of promise, and at one stage in his 2-year-old season, was one of the favorites for Australia’s biggest juvenile race, the Golden Slipper (G1). While he is yet to break through for his maiden win, he has consistently run in the placings and only missed the money twice in his nine starts.

Spaceboy’s first run back from a break last campaign was a solid second, in a much tougher race than tonight. He will open up a big lead on this pack tonight, and with any luck, will be able to maintain plenty of space between himself and the opposition in the run to the post.

Werribee, Race 3: #12 Billie De Lune

A 3-year-old filly, by multiple grade race winner Puissance de Lune, has been solid in her first three starts. Last time out, she was caught three wide for most of the trip but still managed to wind up late and finish strongly for second at Ballarat, where she was beaten by the odds-on favorite.

Tonight, she’s carrying around 2 pounds less, will appreciate an extra furlong, and jockey Michael Dee will be able to give her a much nicer run from the draw.

She is bred to get through the heavy track, and at 8-1 on the morning line, she is a great value!

Good luck.
