Australian racing picks for Mackay and Geelong

Racing from Down Under gets started early tonight, when Awapuni in New Zealand kicks things off for BetAmerica horseplayers at 7:35 p.m. ET.

Not long after, four Aussie Thoroughbred meetings become available for your watching and wagering pleasure — Mackay, Goulburn, Wyong, and Geelong.

Here are a couple picks to help get your night of Down Under action started!

Mackay, Race 1: #9 Golden Treasure

It was hard to resist selecting this filly, based on her expected odds. She is 18-1 on the morning line!

That represents terrific value for a horse who has been racing consistently this preparation and has hit the board in two of her last three starts.

What’s interesting is that this will be Golden Treasure’s second run in six days. She hit the line strongly for a third at Rockhampton on Saturday.

The last time she contested two races in the space of seven days, she ran home really well for a second at Rockhampton. This timem though, she’s dropping in distance, and that could be the key.

A great win/place/show chance to start the night!

Geelong, Race 2: #5 Kravitz

This nicely bred, newly gelded youngster from the Jason Warren barn hasn’t raced since he made his debut at Melbourne’s most high-profile track, Flemington, in January.

This is a much easier assignment, and the horse looks like he’ll be ready to run well fresh, based on an encouraging second in a recent jump out at Mornington.
