Australian racing picks for Mackay and Sale
With the last race at Fonner Park scheduled for 8:36 p.m. ET tonight, we don’t have too long a break before the action kicks in from Down Under!
There are four Australian Thoroughbred meetings and two Aussie harness meetings available for BetAmerica horseplayers this evening, with the first race from Mackay starting proceedings at 10:02 p.m ET.
Here are a couple who should run well.
Mackay, Race 3: #2 Santisimo
This 4-year-old gelding from the Tim Cook stable has been performing well in his three runs back from a break. He’s placed twice in those three races, including his last run at Rockhampton, where he finished third.
During his last race, he let down with an encouraging run from the back of the pack to finish within 1 1/2 lengths of the winner. With a more favorable starting position today, jockey Ashley Butler should be able to give Santisimo a more comfortable run just behind the speed.
He has won over this distance at Mackay and looks well placed to add to his trophy cabinet tonight.
Sale, Race 2: #7 Candy Puzzle
This filly returned from a break at Sale two weeks ago and ran really well, even though nothing really went her way. After she began from a wide gate, Candy Puzzle was caught three wide for most of the trip but worked her way into the race beautifully as the field approached the turn. She flashed home in the center of the track to grab third.
Candy Puzzle has a few things in her favor from that first-up run. Not only will she be fitter, but she has drawn a better gate and drops in weight. Tonight’s race is also a half-furlong longer, which will definitely suit her. At 15-2 on the morning line, she is a terrific value!
