Australian racing picks for Newcastle and Rockhampton
BetAmerica horseplayers have four thoroughbred tracks and two harness-racing venues available from Australia on Monday night.
Of the thoroughbred meetings, Newcastle, Sale, and Rockhampton should all race on good to yielding tracks. Coffs Harbour, in northern New South Wales, has seen a lot rain of late, and will be racing on a heavy track.
Here are a couple picks in the early races, which will hopefully get your night off to a positive start.
Newcastle, Race 1: #4 Maia Nebula
This is a massive drop in class, kind of like going from college back to kindergarten.
Let’s just forget her last run at Randwick, where she was well beaten by an up-and-coming superstar filly called Colette. Maia Nebula ran into the same horse two starts back at Hawkesbury, too, and in hindsight, running five lengths behind Colette is quite a good run!
Maia Nebula will find tonight’s assignment much easier, and she will appreciate the step up in trip and a firmer track.
She is 13-1 on the morning line. I don’t think you will get anywhere near that, but if you do, that’s a fantastic price.
Rockhampton, Race 2: #2 Trump Me
At his last start, Trump Me was at the back of the pack as they approached the turn at Mackay. He unleashed a fantastic run over the final furlongs to land an impressive second. That was his first run back from a break, so expect him to strip fitter tonight.
Look for Trump Me to spot the leaders quite the head start as they swing into the final turn. If he can reproduce the same big finish as last start, he’ll surely be among the leaders at the finish. If you’re an exotics player, a boxed exacta with #1 Magic Cody is a sensible play.
Good luck!
