Australian racing picks for Randwick and Ballarat

May 19th, 2020

I always look forward to Tuesday-night racing from Australia, and tonight is no exception!

Four Thoroughbred meetings await BetAmerica horseplayers, including Randwick, Ballarat, Sunshine Coast, and Pinjarra.

Racing at Randwick will take place on the Kensington track, which is the inner circuit.

Here is a pick for the Randwick card and one for Ballarat!

Randwick, Race 2: #6 Hulk

How do you pick a horse who has run second six times and third twice, in 12 starts?

On paper, it certainly looks like this 3-year-old gelding from the dominant stable of trainer Chris Waller just doesn’t want to win a race. Tonight’s assignment just looks perfect for him, though, and when you keep knocking on that door, surely it has to open at some point!

Hulk is returning from a break but put in a nice effort in a recent barrier trial, which suggests he is ready to run well fresh tonight. In his three fresh runs to date, he has run well in all of them.

He is drawn to get a gun run behind the speed, and with jockey Hugh Bowman in the saddle, Hulk will have every chance to break through for his maiden win. The morning line of 3-1 looks about right.

Ballarat, Race 2: #3 Intellective

This Irish-bred filly disappointed as the favorite in her last start, when she returned from a break to run third at Donald. There were plenty of excuses, though, as she was wide for most of the race and just peaked on her run with about half a furlong to go.

With a better run in transit tonight, she should be tough to beat. She’ll be fitter for that first-up run, and in her only other second-up run, she ran third at Warrnambool. At the time of writing, the track is rated a Soft 7, and Intellective has run well under those conditions.

Good luck, and I hope you find a few winners tonight!
