Australian racing picks for Rockhampton and Kembla Grange
Daylight savings ended in most Australian states Sunday, so some venues will be starting around an hour later (U.S. time) than what they were last week. The exception is any venue from the state of Queensland, which doesn’t recognize daylight saving time.
Rockhampton is in northern Queensland and has a nine-race card kicking off at 10:20 p.m. ET. Monday. Five other Australian venues are available for BetAmerica horse players this evening, including Kembla Grange in New South Wales, which has its first race at 10:45 p.m. ET.
Here’s a couple of picks for you to (hopefully) get your week started on a winning note.
Rockhampton, Race 2: #5 Taraki
This 4-year-old mare returns from a break, but did win a recent trial, which suggests she is ready to return with a bang. Last campaign she was competing against — and beating — much better horses than what she is up against tonight.
Taraki loves Rockhampton. In 10 races at the track, she’s been in the money seven times, including three wins. She also loves tonight’s distance of 6 furlongs, where in five attempts over the trip, she’s won three times.
In her first run after returning from a break last campaign, she was placed in open company. Tonight’s an easier task than the last time she ran fresh, and she should run well and be very hard to beat. Fingers crossed those morning line odds of 4-1 hold up!
Kembla Grange, Race 1: #4 Write On
This is an unraced 2-year-old colt in his first official race start. He does look to be an interesting proposition, though, based on his morning-line odds (13-1) and the fact he has shown plenty of ability in two recent trial runs.
Most recently he stretched out well, knuckled down, and hit the line strongly in a trial at Hawkesbury on March 23. He was wearing blinkers for the first time in that trial, and the gear change looked to help him concentrate on the task at hand.
From an inside gate he should be able to get a good position just off the pace and win on debut for us at big odds.
