Australian racing picks for Rosehill Gardens in Sydney
TwinSpires players have a smorgasbord of racing available to play from Down Under tonight, but the focus will be on Rosehill Gardens, where two Group 2 races are the feature events on an exciting nine-race card.
The great news is that Rosehill happens to be the TwinSpires Rest of the World Betback meeting, which means players can get up to $10 back if the horse they bet to win finishes second. This offer is available on all nine races.
The Silver Slipper (G2) over 5 1/2 furlongs is a traditional prep race to the world’s richest race for two-year-old horses, the Golden Slipper. Last year, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Farnan saluted in the Silver Slipper, before he went on to win the Golden Slipper, so it could pay to study the race closely tonight.
The other feature race is the Hobartville (G2) for three-year-old horses over seven furlongs.
There has been some rain around Sydney, so racing will take place on a rain-affected surface.
Here are a couple picks!
Race 3: #3 Ziegfeld
This Godolphin runner will make his Australian debut, following some very impressive European form.
Last time out, he ran second in a Group 2 at Longchamp in France, behind The Revenant, who went on to win the Queen Elizabeth II (G1) at Royal Ascot. Based on that form, Ziegfeld might just have the class factor here.
While the British-bred son of New Approach hasn’t raced in Australia, he had a recent barrier trial at another Sydney track, Royal Randwick. Jockey Hugh Bowman, who will jump aboard tonight, rode him quietly at the back of the field over the five furlongs, but he looked to be doing his best work late and kept running well for a furlong or so past the wire.
At 4-1 on the morning line, I think he'll run well.
Race 5: #2 Zethus
I'm keen on another Godolphin runner in the Silver Slipper.
Zethus showed guts and determination last time out, when he made up ground late to win the Canonbury (G3) in the final stride

That was over the same track and distance, and while it looks like he is ready for the step up to six furlongs, I think he’ll be competitive again at 5 1/2.
That last-out effort was on a soft track, and while tonight’s track is heavy, he should be able to handle the conditions.
He represents terrific value at 10-1.
Good luck!
