Australian racing picks for Royal Randwick

One of the biggest nights on the Sydney racing calendar awaits us this evening, with the time-honored Epsom H. (G1), just one of three Group 1 races being staged at the region's headquarters, Royal Randwick.

Here are a couple I like for this massive meeting at Randwick.

Race 7: #2 Mallory (11/2 on the morning line)

Mallory has raced well with absolutely no luck this campaign and can turn the tables on race favorite #1 Four Moves Ahead with a little luck tonight.

The Not A Single Doubt filly has only missed the top three once in five starts at the track and may well have beaten Four Moves Ahead last time out, if she wasn’t cramped for racing room in the final stages. The result of that interference saw her elevated from third to second, after an inquiry.

The extra furlong tonight will help Mallory, and jockey Hugh Bowman rises to the challenge at race meets like these.

Race 8: #11 Unloaded (32/1 on the morning line)

The Epsom is an open race, with plenty of chances. Because of that, I’m going to roll the dice with one at huge odds.

Unloaded is being ridden by big-race jockey Glen Boss, who knows his way around the Randwick mile.

Unloaded was beaten last week and will drop significantly in weight on the back of that run. The additional half-furlong is right in his wheelhouse, too.
