Australian racing picks for the Gold Coast and Port Macquarie
As we gear up for a big night from Royal Randwick on Friday night, there’s plenty of races from Down Under this evening to help us build a bank.
The Gold Coast, in the Australian state of Queensland, is home to the world-renowned Surfers Paradise, and also the annual Magic Millions horse sale. It is a fantastic track and racing is likely to be on good ground.
Port Macquarie, which is about a four-hour drive north of Sydney on the mid-coast of New South Wales, is a beautiful country track that gives every runner a chance. Racing will likely be on soft ground.
Here’s a couple of picks for these two venues!
Gold Coast, Race 2: #1 Spirit One
This 2-year-old filly looks well placed to make it back-to-back wins. Two weeks ago at this same track, she let down with a fantastic run to win over 5 1/2 furlongs. She appeared to have plenty more gas in the tank on that occasion, which suggests the extra half-furlong tonight will suit her.

Spirit One is carrying the top weight, but a claiming apprentice jockey will lighten that load, which is another plus. At 7-2 on the morning line, she can get the job done.
Port Macquarie, Race 2: #14 Undeniable
We have a huge field of 18 here, before scratches, so if you like something, you should be able to get a good price.
Undeniable is undeniably one of the leading hopes, certainly on the back of his last run at Newcastle three weeks ago. On that occasion, he ran home strongly for fourth and was beaten only a length by a horse called Glacier, who has since traveled to Sydney and ran a solid second in a race at Warwick Farm.
That form is good enough for me to suggest Undeniable is right in this tonight.
Jockey Ben Looker, who rides well at Port Macquarie, will have to overcome a tricky, wide gate, but at 4-1 on the morning line, I’m willing to find out if he can.
