Australian racing picks for Townsville and Geelong

If you like racing from Down Under, you’re in for a treat tonight!

New Zealand track Waverley kicks things off for BetAmerica horseplayers at 6:45 p.m. ET, before four Aussie Thoroughbred meetings and an Aussie harness meeting joins the wagering opportunities available on the BetAmerica app and website.

Here are a couple picks for two of those meetings, Townsville and Geelong.

Townsville, Race 1: #5 Battle

It’s a competitive race with a lot of chances to kick off the card, which means we should get a nice price on most runners.

Battle has been racing consistently without winning this campaign, but he will get his chance tonight.

I like the way this gelding, by North American sire The Factor, worked home over a similar distance at Mackay last start, and he had a nice little freshen up since.

Battle has come up at 11-2 on the morning line, but we might get a little better come game time.

Geelong, Race 3: #2 Fortyfive Parklane

I’ve been waiting for this Australian 4-year-old to return from a break, and he looks well placed to score a breakthrough win tonight.

He showed a fair amount of promise last campaign and has been unlucky not to win on a couple of occasions.

Leading Melbourne hoop Michael Walker maintains the ride and should be able to lead on the Written Tycoon gelding, or at very least be in a nice position from barrier 4.

Fingers crossed we get those succulent 10-1 morning-line odds.
