Australian racing picks for Warwick Farm and Sunshine Coast

April 7th, 2020

There are five Australian racing venues available for BetAmerica horseplayers Tuesday night, starting with the beautiful Sunshine Coast circuit in Queensland, which has its first race scheduled for 9:39 p.m. ET.

Warwick Farm, Benalla, and Geraldton are the other three thoroughbred tracks available to bet on, while a harness racing meeting will also kick in at 11:13 p.m. ET.

Australia’s eastern states have been copping a lot of rain of late, so be sure to look at the latest track conditions, as most look to between soft and sloppy at the time of writing.

Here’s a couple that should handle the wet tracks.

Warwick Farm, Race 2: #3 Lanu Moana

This New Zealand-bred mare has been showing plenty of promise during her debut campaign, and tonight’s run will be her fourth race this outing. She has had a little freshen up though, with her last run being on St. Patrick’s Day at Hawkesbury.

That March 17 run was a beauty, as she made up a lot of ground and finished strongly for third. Tonight’s assignment is a furlong shorter, but that shouldn’t be an issue. Trainer Chris Waller has opted for a gear change, and she’ll be wearing blinkers for the first time. She looks ready to win, and if those 6-1 morning-line odds hold up, she’s at a very attractive price.

Sunshine Coast, Race 1: #1 Steel Pier

This 3-year-old gelding is on the quick backup, having raced just last week, also at the Sunshine Coast. On that occasion Steel Pier settled toward the back of the field, before he closed well from far back to finish third, within a length of the winner.

Steel Pier will appreciate the extra furlong tonight. His trainer, Tony Gollan, is Queensland’s best, and generally, when he backs up one of his horses within a week, they run very well. The 7-2 morning-line odds are a good value.
