Horse Racing in Australia

Although many racetracks throughout North America and Europe have been suspending race meets due to the coronavirus pandemic, betting opportunities continue at TwinSpires.com with multiple tracks from Australia running on a nightly basis (North America time).

Major racing at the metropolitan tracks in Australia typically occurs on Tuesday and Friday evenings in the U.S., and will be one of the opportunities we'll focus on in the coming weeks. This Tuesday, Warwick Farm outside Sydney will host an eight-race card beginning at 10:35 p.m. (EDT). You can read up more on basic Australian racing info here from the keyboard of Keeler Johnson, while Brisnet.com offers FREE past performances.

Here are races and horses of interest at Warwick Farm (Australia A) 10:35 p.m. (ET):

Race 3

This 6 1/2-furlong maiden race could easily fall to likely favorite #3 BATTLEGROUND (3-1), a narrowly-beaten second in a stakes at Gosford when last seen in late December.

Keying him on top in the Exacta might be the best way to approach the race, and #2 ACTIVATION (18-1) could be the one to fill it out. Despite an awkward start in his debut earlier this month at Kembla Grange, the gelding rallied for third, with his rider later telling stewards he would benefit from the run and additional distance which he gets today.

Race 4

#4 CASTEL SANT'ANGELO (7-2) beat all save #3 Corncrake in a Benchmark 70 handicap at Kembla Grange last time over this distance. He gets a three-pound shift in the weights with that rival here, and has run well over this course in the past (won over 1 3/8 miles here last August) and on soft ground (the going was "Soft 5" at this writing). Figures to race prominently early.

Race 5

#1 DONANDKIM (15-1) makes his first run since mid-November and is saddled with the top weight of 136 pounds in this Benchmark 70 handicap. Perhaps that might be too much too overcome, yet he missed by less than a length in a Group 3 in his most recent run and is 2-for-2 over this 7-furlong trip. Turned the corner in a big way after a nondescript debut here a year ago, a running line best ignored given what we've seen since. Could be fit enough after a couple barrier trials in the past month.

Note the button below will show today's races only, and tomorrow's races will populate over night to become visible tomorrow.

RACE 6

#3 SEGALAS (3-1) very consistent mare who flashed home late to win first up from a spell over the five furlongs, before having to make a sustained run last start and looking the winner with a furlong to go, only to be nailed late near the line by a horse who had been very well supported late in betting. Should be rock hard fit now at her third run back, and although her natural pattern is to settle in the second half of the field, there does appear to be plenty of early speed engaged here, and she should get every chance to get home over the top of them.
