Ballezzi Appreciation Mile S. field analysis and exotics plays

#1 NEW COMMISSION (30-1): The five-year-old stretched out to today's distance in the Parx Dirt Mile S. last out, finishing fourth, 12 lengths behind Far Mo Power, who re-opposes here. New Commission will make his first start since returning to the barn of trainer Frank Pollara, who is 66-11-9-9 this meet. Jeremy Laprida, a 22% winner with routes, will retain the mount.

#2 SENIOR INVESTMENT (10-1): The Discreetly Mine eight-year-old has hit the board in all four starts this season without crossing the wire first. Last out, the Scott Lake pupil finished third by 3 1/2 lengths in a seven-furlong allowance and will return to a route distance while keeping Frankie Pennington (12-4-0-3 the last seven days) in the saddle. Lake is a 15% winner with horses going short to long, but Senior Investment's recent speed figures are far below the par winning figure for today's conditions.

#3 BUY LAND AND SEE (8-1): The Cairo Prince son has been racing on turf in his last five and will switch to dirt, a winning move 22% of the time for trainer Guadalupe Preciado, a 34% winner in non-graded stakes. The gray five-year-old won at last asking in the 1 1/16-mile Alphabet Soup H. at this track and will keep rider Mychel Sanchez, a 43% winner in his last seven races paired with Preciado.

#4 DONTMESAWITHME (12-1): Third in the Parx Dirt Mile by 11 3/4 lengths, Dontmesawithme will attempt a mile again, a distance from which he has one win and a third in four career tries. The Flint Stites trainee will make a jockey switch to Abner Adorno, a 15% winner this meet, who guided Dontmesawithme to a win at today's distance back in March in the Harrison E. Johnson Memorial S. at Laurel Park. Dontmesawithme is just 2-for-14 at Parx, and Stites is just a 5% winner in 56 non-graded stakes races.

#5 LOGICO (15-1): The three-year-old colt won a one-mile allowance optional claimer two back while posting an 86 Brisnet Speed figure, then finished fifth by 11 lengths at the same distance when facing slightly tougher. A rider switch to Ruben Silvera (22% winner this meet) gives hope for improvement, but Logico's recent speed figures pale in comparison to his rivals among today's field.

#6 AMATTEROFTIME (5-1): Shipping in from Delaware Park, Amatteroftime finished second by 1 3/4 lengths in the one-mile and 70-yard DTHA Governors Day H. over a muddy track. His 102 Brisnet Speed figure is the second-highest last race speed figure among the field, behind only Far Mo Power. The seven-year-old son of Eskendereya has posted triple-digit Late Speed figures in his last three and has the closing kick to be dangerous for trainer Silvino Ramirez. Angel Rodriguez (18% winner this meet) will ride.

#7 FAR MO POWER (3-1): The Uncle Mo grandson flashed a 111 Brisnet Speed rating when crossing the finish line first in the Parx Dirt Mile, beating multiple graded stakes winner Mind Control by a neck, but was placed second via disqualification for interference in the stretch. Trained by Louis Linder Jr., the four-year-old will look to get back to the winner's circle at Parx, where he is 10-5-3-1 lifetime. Regular rider Dexter Haddock will retain the mount.

#8 THOMAS SHELBY (4-1): The pacesetter moves up in class after wiring a $100,000 allowance optional claimer at Monmouth Park and gets jockey Isaac Castillo (23% winner with routes). The Curlin gelding makes his second start for trainer David Jacobson after previously being conditioned by Robertino Diodoro. The six-year-old chestnut has never raced at Parx but is 7-3-1-2 at today's distance.

#9 RIDIN WITH BIDEN (5-2): The morning line favorite drops down from graded stakes competition after going gate to wire in the Greenwood Cup S. (G3) at Parx on Sept. 24. Trainer Robert Reid is a 13% winner with horses that won their last race and a 17% winner in non-graded stakes, while jockey Paco Lopez (28% winner this meet) returns to ride.

Daily Double wager with Jump Start S. (Race 10)

Robert Reid features a pair of runners in Race 10, including morning line favorite #10 Smooth B (3-1), who's raced at five furlongs in his last three, and #8 Beren (6-1), who showed declining form and speed in a distant fourth-place showing last out in the Liberty Bell S.

We'll try to beat Reid's stablemates with #4 Uncle Ernie (4-1), a Talent Search gelding who has a pair of victories, a second, and a third in four career starts at today's distance. The four-year-old struggled in his first try at turf last out and will switch back to dirt, a winning move 24% of the time for trainer John Servis, who is a 20% winner with horses making their second start off a layoff.

We'll also add #6 Bourbon Music (9-2), who moves up in class after winning a six-furlong allowance optional claimer at Penn National by 3 1/2 lengths. Conditioner Bernard Houghton is a 19% winner in non-graded stakes and a 17% winner with horses that won their last race. Bourbon Music's sharp, five-furlong workout on Oct. 8 adds to the appeal.
