Belmont Park: How to bet the 2021 Frizette Stakes

Nine juvenile fillies with hopes of punching a ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) will vie in Sunday’s $400,000 Frizette S. (G1) at Belmont Park. The “Win and You’re In” affair is contested at a one-turn mile over Big Sandy and is led by the exciting #6 Echo Zulu, who has dominated two fields to date, including the Spinaway S. (G1) at Saratoga last time out.

Conditioned by Steve Asmussen, the daughter of Gun Runner has done nothing wrong to date and continues to train forwardly in advance of her initial offering at Belmont Park. The bay filly, who was purchased for $300,000 as a yearling, has huge early zip and has proven to be more than capable of carrying her speed at this stage of her development.

Echo Zulu gets a very good post draw to avoid trouble in the early stages, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the bay were to run her foes off of their proverbial feet once again. Regular pilot Ricardo Santana Jr. will be atop the menacing filly, who will surely be a short-priced favorite.

I loved the marked improvement shown by #4 Hot Fudge when she was moved to the dirt for her second career race by trainer Linda Rice. The $235,000 juvenile purchase powered home to a strong maiden tally on the surface, and I think that she will receive a good trip to make a late run and complete the exacta on Sunday. Jose Ortiz riding adds to the appeal of the Liam’s Map filly.

My other exotics inclusion will be Todd Pletcher’s #2 A Mo Reay. The dark bay daughter of Uncle Mo appeared to lose all chance with a poor start at Saratoga on debut, but she displayed an excellent closing kick to finish third by just a half-length. The Kentucky-bred shows a trio of solid morning drills since that performance, and if she stays in touch early, she can surely grab a piece in the latter stages with Jose Lezcano picking up the mount.
