Belmont Park track update for June 1
With the Belmont S. (G1) festival on the horizon, let's check in on the Belmont Park meet and find out some trends and connections that could help you score during its biggest week!
Jockeys
Irad Ortiz, as usual, tops the Belmont rider standings, with 34 wins in 136 starts (25%) and 81 in-the-money finishes (60%).
Unsurprisingly, his horses also get bet. The flat-bet ROI on Irad Ortiz is -16%, which means only an average of $1.68 return for every $2 win wager.

Jose Lezcano has been the price-play jockey to watch. Lezcano has nine wins from 82 starts (11%) this meet, with a +22% ($2.44) flat-bet ROI. Five of his nine winners have offered 8-1 or better. None have been the favorite.
On turf, Jose Ortiz has been very bettable. He is tied with his brother Irad for most turf wins, with 15 from 62 turf tries (24%). Yet, Jose Ortiz's flat-bet turf ROI this meet is positive, a healthy +19% ($2.38).
Trainers
Chad Brown and Christophe Clement enter Belmont week the joint win leaders at Belmont, with 17 each, six clear of both Mike Maker and Rob Atras.
Their ROIs differ starkly. People still throw money at Brown, who has a 22% win rate but a flat-bet ROI of -5% ($1.90). Clement, on the other hand? He is winning at a 27% clip, and $2 to win on each of his horses all meet would have netted a nice $2.58 per horse on average (+29% ROI).
On turf, both Brown (+19%) and Clement (+45%) have positive ROIs for the meet. Clement currently leads Brown in turf wins, 17 to 14.
There has been a NW1X at one mile on the turf on this weekend the last four years. @TheRealChadCBr1 has won it each year with a horse that went on to win at least one Grade 1 race….Bricks and Mortar ( 2017 ), Raging Bull ( 2018 ), Valid Point ( 2019 ), and Domestic Spending

On dirt, Orlando Noda leads all trainers with nine wins from 27 starts (33%). His flat-bet dirt ROI is also among the best, at +82% ($3.64). The only trainer with at least 10 dirt starts who has a better ROI is Mike Maker, who has five wins from 10 starts with his dirt horses, an +87% ($3.74) return.
