Bet Royal Ascot's Pick 4
Day 1, Tuesday June 19, 2018
by Dick Powell
Race 3:
#10 LADY AURELIA is the defending champion and she gets firm ground. Daughter of SCAT DADDY won here the past two years and comes in here off a good prep at Keeneland for Wesley Ward. #9 WASHINGTON D C flew home last out to miss by a head on similar ground and he has won here before. #13 DECLARATIONOFPEACE won going this distance at Del Mar then lost all chance in his prep for this last out with a stumbling start. Inconsistent but dangerous at a price.
First Leg: 9, 10, 13
Race 4:
#5 ROMANISED won the 2,000 Guineas Stakes G1 at 25/1 but did it decisively and on firm ground. He was second to Epsom Derby G1 winner MASAR last year going seven furlongs and should be ready for a top effort in here. #9 WITHOUT PAROLE flies the banner of JUSTIFY’s breeders and this son of FRANKEL is undefeated in three lifetime starts – all as the odds-on favorite. John Gosden and Frankie Dettori try to get him to pass the class test. #8 U S NAVY FLAG has good early speed and gets Ryan Moore back aboard.
Second Leg: 5, 8, 9
Race 5:
This is a 20-runner handicap with a nine-pound spread of weight going 2 ½ miles. #7 CHELKAR won in France almost two years ago but his trainer can get them to run all day and Ryan Moore gets aboard in a sign of confidence that he is ready. #5 DUBAWI FIFTY has a few wins going marathon distance and draws well. #19 WHITE DESERT should be fit after winning a marathon race on an all-weather track last out and should be able to handle the distance with William Buick. #8 DANNYDAY who would you rather train for this type of race than Michael Stoute and this son of DANSILI makes his second start off a long layoff.
Third Leg: 5, 7, 8, 19
Race 6:
#13 SHARJA BRIDGE is lightly raced but has to take a false step and seem to be progressing nicely up the class ladder for Roger Varian who has 8 wins in the last 14 days. #8 KIDMENEVER beat decent handicap running last out in Dubai going this distance for Charlie Appleby and should love the firmer ground. #9 LARAAIB won his first three career starts last year before running second in a group three. He returned this year with a good second behind POETS WORD who was second in the Sheema Classic G1 this year.
Fourth Leg: 8, 9, 13
With big fields, it is hard to take a stand in any of these. In case Lady Aurelia is on her game, we will single her on one ticket: 9 with 5, 8, 9 with 5, 7, 8, 19 with 8, 9, 13 (36 combinations)
If we go three deep in the first leg: 9, 10, 13 with 5, 8, 9 with 5, 7, 8, 19 with 8, 9, 13 (108 combinations)
Best of luck with the new Royal Ascot Pick 4 bet and find each day's official race list here!
