Weekday picks and plays for thoroughbred racing.
Thursday, April 16
Gulfstream Park, Race 2: Maiden special weight (4 1/2 furlongs, 1:34 p.m. ET)
North America’s first juvenile race of 2020 has attracted eight starters, led by #2 Lime (7-5 on the morning line).
A daughter of Iqbaal, who sires 37% winners from first-time starters, Lime is conditioned by Wesley Ward, a master at training precocious 2-year-olds.
Ward strikes at a 30% rate with debut runners, and Lime has been training sharply in Florida this winter, where she has posted three bullet workouts since the middle of March.

Iqbaal should cruise Thursday and looms as a single for multi-race wagers, but we’ll also play her on top of a cold exacta, with #1 Awesome View underneath.
A daughter of successful Florida stallion Awesome of Course, Awesome View is trained by Ralph Nicks (a 20% winner with 2-year-olds) and owned by Jacks or Better Farm, which campaigns some of the best juveniles in Florida each year.
$25 exacta: 2 with 1
Good luck!
