Weekday picks and plays for Thoroughbred racing.
Wednesday, April 29
Tampa Bay Downs, Race 2: Maiden special weight (1 mile and 40 yards, 1:30 p.m. ET)
The stoutly bred #5 Accessible (even money on the morning line) has finished second in three of his four starts for trainer Eoin Harty. A son of Tapit, out of the graded stakes-winning mare Riposte, Accessible has fared well sprinting on dirt and running long on grass, so perhaps tackling a dirt route on Wednesday will be the key to a breakthrough victory.
The stars appear aligned for a winning effort. Accessible is facing just five rivals, none of them particularly formidable on paper, and he’ll pick up the services of hot jockey Samy Camacho, a 21% winner at Tampa Bay.
Let’s bet Accessible on top in the trifecta, with #2 Mr. Quality (5-2) and the first-time starters #4 Mediate (6-1) and #6 Carl G (6-1) underneath.
$10 trifecta: 5 with 2 with 4,6 ($20)
$10 trifecta: 5 with 4,6 with 2 ($29)
Good luck!
