Weekday picks and plays for Thoroughbred racing.

Delaware Park, Race 6: $25,000 waiver maiden claiming (5 1/2 furlongs, 3:45 p.m. ET)

There are no sure bets in horse racing, but #5 Feyre (2-1 on the morning line) looks like a near-certain winner in this sprint for 2-year-old fillies.

Trainer Anthony Pecoraro has been on fire this summer at Delaware Park, where he has gone 8-for-25 (32%). Although Feyre finished fourth in her debut at this class level Aug. 1, Pecoraro wins at a 36% rate with second-time starters. The trainer also has gone 40-for-108 (37%) with experienced juveniles racing at Delaware since 2015, and Feyre will race with Lasix for the first time Monday, a 45% winning move for Pecoraro.

All signs suggest Feyre will take a big step forward, though even a small step could be sufficient to land her in the winner’s circle. The 69 Brisnet Speed rating she earned on debut fits very well in Monday’s field, and she tops the Brisnet Prime Power rankings. Throw in the presence of jockey Brian Pedroza (a 38% winner with Pecoraro over the last 60 days), and Peyre looks tough to beat.

#2 Anginetti (8-1), #4 Helen Gibson (6-1), and #7 My Expensive Gift (3-1) can round out the exotics.

$18 to win on #5 Feyre
$2 trifecta: 5 with 2,4,7 with 2,4,7 ($12)
Total: $30

Good luck!
