Weekday picks and plays for Thoroughbred racing.
Monday, Aug. 31
Presque Isle Downs, Race 5: Satin and Lace S. (6 furlongs on Tapeta, 6:25 p.m. ET)
The versatile #9 A Bit of Both (8-5 on the morning line) has won stakes races on dirt, turf, and synthetic tracks and looms as a frontrunning threat in this 6-furlong dash.
#3 Regal Chant (10-1) is a local specialist, with six wins from eight starts over the Presque Isle Downs Tapeta. She too has enough speed to be prominent from the outset.
But #6 Too Much Tip (20-1) is the most intriguing filly in the Satin and Lace field. Though she has never run on synthetic, she’s held her own against quality competition on turf, and her career-best 93 Brisnet Speed rating fits well in this spot.
Too Much Tip weakened in a 5-furlong dirt allowance at Delaware Park on July 23, but it was her first start off a 9 1/2-month layoff. She can show improvement with the transition to Tapeta in her second start back for trainer Ron Potts, who has gone 8-for-25 (33%) at Presque Isle Downs this summer.
Let’s place a small win bet on Too Much Tip, then box her in the exacta with A Bit of Both and Regal Chant.
$8 to win on #6 Too Much Tip
$2 exacta Box: 3,6,9 ($12)
Total: $20
Good luck!
