#2 Cynical Girl (9-5 on the morning line) is favored after rallying to finish second over this course and distance on July 2, but with four seconds and a third from six career starts, Cynical Girl is developing the profile of a "money burner"—a talented filly, no doubt, but one seemingly reluctant to visit the winner’s circle.

# Blue Lizzy (5-2) is an appealing alternative. Conditioned by hot trainer Jose Silva (a 27% winner at Canterbury this meet), Blue Lizzy finished just a neck behind Cynical Girl on July 2 despite enduring a challenging trip in her first career start. Blue Lizzy broke slowly, rushed up along the rail, raced a bit rankly while waiting in traffic, shifted lanes looking for racing room in the homestretch, and finally rallied gamely along the inside to finish third while beaten a length for all the money.
