Gulfstream Park, Race 3: $25,000 claiming (1 1/16 miles on turf, 2:09 p.m. ET)

#8 Cherokee Sound (3-1 on the morning line) is poised to break her maiden. Edged out by a nose, she failed as the favorite in her last start. In the two starts prior to that, she overcame wide trips and gained ground in the stretch to finish less than a length from the winner. The competitive filly posted three bullet works in the past two months, and her last Brisnet speed rating is bested only by stablemate #11 Sunday Scheming (8-1 on the morning line).

Bred by owner Kent Spellman and trainer Wesley Ward, the chestnut filly will make her fifth start for the pair. Luis Saez, who leads in the Gulfstream jockey standings and wins at a 21% rate, is in the irons for the second time.

We’ll bet Cherokee Sound to win and box her with Sunday Scheming, who also is coming off a strong workout.
