Tampa Bay Downs, Race 1: $5,000 claiming (1 1 1/6 miles, 1:00 p.m. ET)
The Wednesday opener is a claimer for horses who haven’t won two races since Nov. 20, conditions that suit #1 The Kahn (7-2 on the morning line) just fine.
Conditioned by Tampa Bay Downs’ leading trainer Gerald Bennett, The Kahn showed fine form over the Tampa Bay main track April 22, when he unleashed a sharp move on the far turn to win an $8,000 claiming race for non-winners of three races.
The Kahn earned a solid 82 Brisnet Speed rating for his victory over the local oval, and he was hardly disgraced when he cut back to 7 furlongs May 8. On that occasion, he rallied to finish third at the same class level as Wednesday’s test. With this sprint sharpener under his belt, The Kahn can roll right back to the winner’s circle with hot jockey Daniel Centeno (a 22% winner at Tampa) in the saddle.
We’ll bet The Kahn to win and box him in the exacta with #4 Gran Greyfrost.
$20 to win on #1 The Kahn
$5 exacta box: 1,4 ($10)
Good luck!
