Weekday picks and plays for Thoroughbred racing.
Tuesday, May 5
Fonner Park, Race 2: Allowance (6 furlongs, 5:27 p.m. ET)
This race for Nebraska-breds has attracted a field of seven, with #2 Want to Be Cowboy (3-1 on the morning line) looming as a formidable contender for the hot trainer/jockey team of Kelli Martinez and Armando Martinez.
The 4-year-old gelding was tons the best in a half-mile maiden sprint on March 6 at Fonner, where he led all the way to score by 6 1/2 lengths over next-out winner #7 Creeds Revenge (7-2), who is back for a rematch.

Want to Be Cowboy’s runaway victory produced a 73 Brisnet Speed rating, the highest figure earned by any runner in Tuesday’s field. His tactical speed is a major asset, so we’ll bet Want to Be Cowboy to win, and play him in the trifecta, with Creeds Revenge and #5 Mr. Big Shot (2-1), the runner-up in the Fonner Park Special S. two weeks ago.
$10 to win on #2 Want to Be Cowboy
$10 trifecta: 2,5 with 2,5 with 7 ($20)
Good luck!
