Gulfstream Park, Race 1: $12,500 Maiden Claiming (5 furlongs on turf, 1 p.m. ET)

Early speed tends to be dominant in 5-furlong turf sprints at Gulfstream. Horses with the Brisnet E (Early) running style have won 49% of these grass dashes since the end of November, while E/P runners have accounted for another 27%.

As a result, #6 Myfirstexwife (5-2 on the morning line) should be tough to beat. A daughter of Grade 1-winning sprinter/miler The Factor, Myfirstexwife appears to be the “speed of the speed” in this modest claimer for 3-year-old fillies. Myfirstexwife has finished second in her last two runs for a $25,000 tag, including one occasion where she dueled for the lead through blazing fractions of :20.97 and :43.85.

The drop to $12,500 should allow Myfirstexwife secure the early lead and never look back. Trainer Jorge Abreau wins at a 40% rate when he drops runners down in class two levels, and Eclipse Award-winning jockey Irad Ortiz will take the mount.

We’ll bet Myfirstexwife to win and play her on top of a cold exacta, with #2 No No Nina (8-5), who finished seventh in a maiden special weight over this course and distance on April 5.

$20 to win on #6 Myfirstexwife
$10 exacta: 6 with 2

Good luck!
