Betting begins on Pool 1 of 2024 Kentucky Derby Future Wager

Pool 1 of the 2024 Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW) begins on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at noon ET and will conclude on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 6 p.m.

Bettors will be allowed to place win and exacta bets, both with a $2 minimum.

There are 38 individual wagering interests, led by Breeders' Futurity (G1) winner Locked, who was pegged at 15-1 on the morning line. There are also two mutuel field options, one covering all fillies from the 2021 foal crop and one covering all colts and geldings from the 2021 foal not among the 38 individual wagering interests.

All horses under the care of trainers currently suspended from competing at Churchill Downs are included in the mutuel fields.

There will be five additional KDFW pools ahead of the 150th edition of the Kentucky Derby (G1) next May. The others will be Nov. 23-26 (Pool 2); Jan. 19-21 (Pool 3); Feb. 16-18 (Pool 4); March 15-17 (Pool 5); April 4-6 (Pool 6). The Kentucky Derby Sire Future Wager will be held concurrently with Pool 2. The lone Kentucky Oaks Future Wager will coincide with Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 5.

There are no refunds in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager. Should Churchill Downs officials determine during the duration of this week’s pool that one of the wagering interests has experienced an injury, illness or other circumstance that would prevent the horse from participating in the Kentucky Derby, betting on the individual horse will be suspended immediately.
