Australian harness racing: More from Redcliffe

This week we'll remain at Redcliffe for wagering Wednesday night, July 15 in North America, which is Thursday afternoon, July 16 in Australia. The program begins at 10:10 p.m. ET.

Let's dive into the nine-race card.

Race 1

Most in this field of non-winners are recognizable since we began moving a bankroll in Queensland. Most have also had their turn as a favorite , so where do we look to find the one who will graduate?

Our fancy surfaces with Chantal Turpin's Albion shipper, #8 Gojoe. On the wood in the second row, this Roll With Joe gelding is still developing his talent, and in his covered post, he should be restrained early and able to surge late.

The filly #3 Talent In Spades keeps flirting with a win. She could wind up a good exotic partner.

Race 2

The second race presents freshman pacers. While second-row posts frighten bettors far too much, we try to enjoy the benefits of their fear.

This is one reason why we are especially high on #8 Rolling River. A son of Rock N Roll Heaven — who is often underrated, compared to the stats of his sire, Rocknroll Hanover — this second-time starter should handle a great trip from a second-row launch.

Bill Crosby is letting this one train himself and when the bloodline kicks in, look out.

From Albion, #4 Royal Princess is becoming too comfortable following the leaders across the finish line, so she could be dangerous at a new location.

Race 3

A trio of pacers who were favored recently at Redcliffe return, with hardly the same financial fates in store.

Some trouble along the road worked against #1 Illbewatching, which gives her another shot at a second win in 28 starts today. She did, however, defeat #2 Valkyrie Hanover in a similar contest two back, but Valkyrie Hanover has faced a tad better during a longer campaign.

From the outside in the first row, #7 Major Grandeur carries the toughest trip but still qualifies in the general class of the other two.

Race 4

#6 Butcherfeelgood is our main choice, based on the awful trip she overcame last time out. The mare was very wide late but held sway, even though she raced roughly after she made contact with another closer. A smooth trip, even very late into the action, may do it.

Ben Battle's #4 Tick Of The Clock could lead the pack but will be short when it counts and hold for second or third.

Race 5

Vicki Rasmussen's #7 Mucho Guapa is a 4-year-old Rock N Roll Heaven mare who is making a good season out of 22 starts for her connections. She has speed, though dislikes dueling, and if she gets off the ground from this post early, she could own all of the turns.

Though #6 Ima Regal Jet tends to burn money for bettors, he finishes well enough to send trainer Lola Weidemann to the bank. Look for the gelding to be in the thick of the three finishing atop this field.

Race 6

We're going again with #4 Kookaburraprincess, since the McArdle mare was challenged by a number of problems last time out and still finished third (that was the Butcherfeelgood race).

Well backed last week at Redcliffe, the scene of his most recent win, #7 Moonlight Butcher was buried by shuffling and left with no path against Rockntingira (a winner we posted), who would trounce this group.

Race 7

Weidemann's #3 Bara Jayla had a lot of trouble when she faced #5 Somebeachsomegift last time.

The latter could be a big favorite here, but if things go better for Bara Jayla, Lola may get what Lola wants — a fairly priced winner.

Race 8

Coming from a race two back that spawned two winners from its first and second placings, #7 Lifeinheaven is is a great spot for victory against lesser foes. She is a Rock N Roll Heaven mare and is sturdy in form and earnings.

Sharp as an exotic partner, #5 Newmerella Ladykay will find a spot late for her and backers.

Race 9

We don't see much progeny from Grinfromeartoear any more, so #3 Hard To Hear, a 9-year-old gelding, catches our eye, as does his across-the-board earnings. Trent Dawson has a professional racehorse here, with an underrated bloodline filled with speed.

When looking for a companion in exotics, do not pass #6 Just Joshin. Aileen Smith's son of Bettors Delight is rife for making money.
