Harness racing: A Northfield Pick 3 on tap for Saturday
A Pick 3 at Northfield Park on Saturday, Jan. 16 — featuring the fourth, fifth, and sixth races — is loaded with potential.
The fast four-turn mile makes speed important, which is why Northfield calls the quartet “the flying turns.” These Pick 3 legs are competitive, so you should also consider single-race exotics and tried-and-true win, place, and show bets.
Let's take a look at the sequence and put a ticket together.
Race 4
#7 Party Belle comes into this race off a tough trip on the outside last time out, and she disappointed backers as the public choice. She was claimed from that race and should be full of speed to please the new connections
#5 Ravishing Virgin tired last time out, after a second-tier route found her wide for most of the mile. She should get a better spot early and race much better.
Race 5
#4 Model Number Five prepped for this race with two strong qualifiers, after a brief vacation. She raced with better horses at Miami Valley, with good results, and could wire this field with a quick start.
#8 Full Deck has a strong move that can overcome the outside post, which asks more of a horse on a speedy, half-mile track.
Race 6
#5 Pearl Crush will drops in class, to a level where she has been successful. This is a wobbly, classless field, and it gives her an edge.
#8 Diamondtequilashot breaks stride a lot, but if on gait, she will beat this group easily. Can she stay afloat and show her best from the outside?
The Ticket
