Hoosier Park harness plays for April 21

Each week, Frank Cotolo employs money-management tactics to build wagers that focus on plump profits.

For the program on April 21 at Hoosier Park, we suggest some horses for selected plays that may fit in any type of wager.

Race 3

For his 2021 debut, #3 Brookview Bryant steps up after a six-month layoff. The Always A Virgin product is a sophomore now and qualified for trainer-driver Chad Clark as a prep. The gelding is coming off a win, his last race at two, and may be far better than his 15-1 morning line estimates.

Last week, #5 Da Peoples Panther raced a competent mile at 7-1 stepping into this class. He finished third, ahead of #7 Tellitlikelynn. Both of these pacers are controlled by trainers new to them and figure to improve though still ignored by the public.

Race 6

A number of problematic, though not embarrassing, miles took #1 Every Play Counts off the tote board this season until a fine account of himself from post 10 last week, where he finished third from the second-tier. He raced his best at Dayton and Miami Valley and is in a good spot here.

A sharp but tiring move last week from #2 Shark Control should be noted for his return in this affair. His race before that, at Miami Valley, was to place at 10-1 and he will be in the mix tonight.

Race 9

Two from our choices last week return in this conditioned pace and we are willing to support them again. Leaving next to one another, #4 Ten Chances and #5 Motoring Michael passed on their freshman seasons and are filled with promise.

Motoring Michael is a son of JK Endofanera, out of a Always A Virgin mare, and has shown he is just beginning to feel the heat of his bloodline. His speed will quicken and his trips will become better before the public catches on.

Breeding is not the forte of Ten Chances, but his recent two races are formful miles and worthy of some backing.

Race 11

This claiming handicap is a good betting race because there is an argument for each in the field. Considering how overbet favorites have become at Hoosier, you may be able to fall into a winner with a good price. Handicapping deeply is normal for us, so we have no problem doing it with this $30k group.

A product of pure speed (sired by Sunfire Blue Chip from a mare by The Panderosa), #1 Sunfirewindrain was claimed by Melanie Wrenn for $25k. She steps him into a race where he could guide the field to the finish. And if the gelding does not pace from gate to wire in front, he surely looks able to come off a duel or some shuffling by other speedsters involved. We know one thing—he won’t be one of the public’s choices against high-priced claimers from trainers Ron Burke (#5 Father Ted GB) and Tyler George (#7 Never Say Never N; #4 Secret Threat).
