Hoosier home-breds race in Indiana Sires Stakes

Hoosier Park continues to line up the best in Indiana-bred two- and three-year olds with Indiana Sires Stakes (INSS) legs this week. 

Thursday, Sept. 3

On Sept. 3 there are a pair of $40,000 splits in leg four for two-year-old filly pacers. The first INSS for the fillies will entice the majority of bettors to back the only daughter of Always A Virgin, #4 Somethingbeautiful. She stands out for her sire, for her earnings and for her wins. Looking for an upset means going with the only filly in the field by Time To Roll—#3 Rollonbeauty—who may be up to racing with this brand to make the top share of a big purse. 

Seven go to post in the second split. In last week’s leg three we were hot on #1 Sassy Cindy, who did very well in her second start. She has only to improve to be a major threat to the top money-earners and obvious favorites. Sassy Cindy is a daughter of productive sire Riggins, who has more to prove against the sires represented in this field, but could deliver the best price.

Friday, Sept. 4

On Friday, Sept. 4, Hoosier hosts four more INSS affairs, for sophomore ($33,000) and freshman-colt pacers ($42,000) each.

The first three-year-old INSS in leg 5 offers seven at the gate. A winner last week, #6 Crook Boyzz looks to increase his earnings and wins with another and will be fancied by the public. Bound to be haunting him is #5 Caribbean Espcape, who has hit the board four of six times and continues to campaign well as the state championship nears.

Starting the duo of two-year-old colt INSS miles, outsider #9 Skyway Victor gets a chance to turn the tables on division members and pull off a surprise price. The son of Tellitlikeitis could find the 9 hole advantageous when duels ensue through the half, which is highly possible with these youngsters.

Ten more green pacers crowd the track in the second INSS frosh split, with more than 50 percent of the field still looking for a win while #10 Brookview Bullet (second tier) battles to win his fourth straight. Danger looms, though, from #3 Velocity Gator. He’s racing for only the second time after coming in second the first time. He’s trained by Ron Burke, but here the association may not attract as many bettors as usual with strong support for "Bullet" and #9 PRB Street Gang.

The second sophomore INSS field of eight is very competitive. Shane Bowemaster’s #8 Island Of The Sea has to negotiate the mile leaving from post 8, while solid competition will come from #1 Dojea Gizmo and #4 Family Recipe. The latter has a better resume this season, having hit the board every time—and quickly. Where the public puts the majority of its money, though, is not so clear. This early, we like Family Recipe best under these conditions.
