Hoosier Park harness plays: April 28

(Each week, Frank Cotolo employs money-management tactics to build wagers that focus on plump profits.)

For the program on April 28 at Hoosier Park, we suggest some horses for selected plays that may fit in any type of wager.

Race 3

From the outside, #7 Vel Letsroll South has been best at Hoosier going to Ohio and back since last October. We forgive him for a break two back and applaud his race last week against the next class level. He won his last mile at Hoosier and has the slight class edge over these.

Deserving the step up, #6 Joshua Fulton gets no respect with a morning line of 10-1, which may turn out to be a vastly incorrect measurement but a good thing for us bargain hunters because he is firmly a contender here.

Expect some improvement from #10 Brookview Bryant, who we liked last week in his first race of 2021. He made one move and tonight may make a move good enough to raise the prices of exotics.

Race 6

A bevy of proven losers assembles for this trot, so we feel we are getting an edge with one that is not a proven loser based on how many times he has not lost. Toss out half of the starts for #3 Hawks Z Tam because he broke in one and was simply outraced from the 8 hole last week.

As well, do not under estimate #6 Salome. The filly qualified well at Hoosier, was racing for more money in Canada, has been supported by bettors and is a filly by Kadabra. As a sire, Kadabra has produced many tough fillies and you have to give this one a shot after racing only twice.

Race 8

Scratched sick last week after we backed him during a strong-finish fourth, #2 Motoring Michael should show more stamina after a quick start last time, then surrendering to more experienced stock. Still, the early foot that gave in was certainly a sign of a horse on the improve with only three races to his name.

Also lightly raced, #9 ER Rufus was impressive grinding his way to gain ground and get third, beaten for second by a nudge.

Race 11

Claimed at 5-1, #7 Always Relentless has faced better at Miami. His April 2 race can be tossed for a tiring early move that cost him ground, and he was competent finishing fifth in an open claimer at this price. The new connections could get some of their money back here if the gelding races back to March 26.

The other recently claimed entry is #2 Willey Bite. To recent appearances on the toteboard, this 10-year-old has some spark left after traveling to many a track to perform and could be on the board again for his new owners.

Race 13

One qualifier seems to be enough to satisfy trainer Christopher Beaver’s #5 Fantasia Flurry so it should be enough for us. The filly’s sharp frosh speed may be on display in league with her maturity, enough to beat #6 Ima Diamond Babe, who finished second with no excuse, losing the lead trying to win her April 21 mile at 5-2.
