How to bet the Simcoe Stakes (Sept. 11)
Three-year-old-filly and colt trotters meet in the Simcoe Stakes (SS) on the Grand Circuit at Woodbine/Mohawk (WoMo) on Sept. 11. The fillies go in a pair of $88k divisions, while the colts race in a single division for $167k.
Race 3, 7:40 p.m. ET
In the first for the fillies, two entries come off wins. One of them, #2 Fortune Starlet, steps up into higher level, having to prove she can handle the heat. It looks as if she can handle #5 McKees Angel, who defeated one of the public’s choices, #7 Warrawee Vicky, in a Casual Breeze event, and both are here.
Meg Crone’s Fortune Starlet is in a great spot to improve and to toss a good price, too.
Race 8, 9:20 p.m. ET
The second Simcoe for the fillies is hardly a tight fit, considering one of the girls is the colt-slaying #6 Ramona Hill — 2020 Hambletonian champion.

WoMo is the track where we introduced you to the magnificent trotter, giving her our backing as a two-year-old in last year’s Breeders Crown final, which she won, paying double digits. At three, she is the better of two divisions.
With seven in the field against Ramona Hill, the race is for place.
#1 Susies Lady finished second in a Casual Breeze stakes at a stunning 29-1 against McKees Angel (see Simcoe-filly race above) and should chase Ramona Hill with gumption.
Race 6, 8:40 p.m. ET
The three-digit purse colts’ edition contains two entries from the Hambletonian final and one from the eligible division. Neither has won a race since the August classic. The Hambo finalists are #2 Capricornus and #6 Threefiftytwo.
Capricornus has underperformed as a three-year-old this year, but in this Simcoe he looms the best. Certainly, he has raced far better than Threefiftytwo, though the latter could do much better among this group than against the Hambo class.
#7 Beyond Kronos could join the exotics.
