Idiomatic among eight Keeneland qualifiers
Eight Breeders’ Cup qualifiers took place during opening week of the Keeneland fall meet. Arguably the most notable winner was Idiomatic. The reigning Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) heroine earned her way back to the Distaff with a second consecutive triumph in the Spinster (G1), romping home on top by 6 1/2 lengths.
Carl Spackler nabbed his second straight Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series qualifier when wiring the Turf Mile (G1) by one length over deep-closing More Than Looks. Both look like serious Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) contenders.
Federal Judge earned his way to the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) with a flashy 5 1/2-length romp in the Phoenix (G2). The Brad Cox trainee clocked six furlongs in a quick 1:08.20 after setting stiff fractions of :21.62 and :43.97.
East Avenue is on his way to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) after leading from start to finish in the Breeders’ Futurity (G1), conquering Hopeful (G1) runner-up Ferocious by 5 1/4 lengths.

Immersive is shaping up as the possible Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) favorite after qualifying with a 1 1/4-length score in the Alcibiades (G1), her second straight Grade 1 win.
A three-horse photo finish in the Jessamine (G2) saw May Day Ready overcame trouble to win by a nose, earning her ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1).
A last-to-first rally carried Zeitlos to a decisive 2 3/4-length victory in the Thoroughbred Club of America (G2), which came with a fees-paid berth to the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1).
Lastly, the Bourbon (G2) saw 38-1 longshot Minaret Station swallow the leaders in the closing strides to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) qualifier by 1 1/2 lengths.
Four juveniles qualify via Aqueduct
A quartet of graded stakes for two-year-olds awarded Breeders’ Cup berths at Aqueduct last week.
Chancer McPatrick led the charge. The Hopeful (G1) winner picked up a second straight top-tier prize in the Champagne (G1), rallying boldly from last place to prevail by 2 3/4 lengths and earn a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.
The Frizette (G1) went in impressive fashion to the maiden Scottish Lassie, who rated in third place before taking over to secure her first victory by nine lengths. She’s stamped her ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
Mentee impressed while switching from dirt to turf for the Futurity (G3), earning his way to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1) with a pace-pressing 3 1/2-length triumph.
Stepping outside the New York-bred ranks couldn’t stop Saratoga debut winner Scythian from scoring a decisive 2 1/2-length win in the Miss Grillo (G2), an important stepping stone to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
Citizen Bull, Non Compliant, Hang the Moon qualify at Santa Anita
On a busy Saturday at Santa Anita, Citizen Bull joined the prospective Breeders’ Cup Juvenile field with a gate-to-wire win by two lengths in the American Pharoah (G1).
In the Oak Leaf (G2), Non Compliant overcame a wide trip to run down pacesetting Nooni by 2 1/4 lengths, qualifying to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).
Hang the Moon snagged a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) when launching a last-to-first rally in the final quarter-mile of the Rodeo Drive (G2) to beat her rivals by 1 1/2 lengths.
ParisLongchamp hosts five qualifiers on Arc day
The most important day on the French racing calendar yielded five Breeders’ Cup qualifiers.
The Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1), arguably the most prestigious race in Europe, went to the four-year-old filly Bluestocking. The Juddmonte homebred kicked home strongly over very soft turf to secure her third Group 1 win of the year by 1 1/4 lengths. She earned a berth to the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1).
In the Prix Marcel Boussac (G1), a stepping stone to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, Vertical Blue outkicked Zarigana to win by a nose in her group stakes debut.
Camille Pissarro proved best in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (G1), earning his way to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf with a neck triumph over Rashabar.
The Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) picked up a qualifier when Makarova drove clear by 1 1/4 lengths in the Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp (G1), defeating established Breeders’ Cup qualifier Bradsell into second place.
Friendly Soul led a 1-2 finish for trainers John and Thady Gosden in the Prix de l’Opera (G1), defeating stablemate Running Lion to win the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) prep by three-quarters of a length.
