How to bet the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies

October 29th, 2024

A well-matched field of 10 juvenile ladies will travel 1 1/16 miles on the Del Mar dirt in Friday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). I don’t feel that the domestic product is as strong as it has been in years past, so I will tab an international invader to pull off the upset in the affair.

Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Analysis

#9 American Bikini (5-1) was second in her debut showing on June 15 at Kyoto, and the daughter of American Pharoah has romped home to wins in two straight races since her unveiling. I feel that she is poised for a major performance in her stateside bow. Trained by Takashi Saito, the March foal set a track record in graduating in a five-furlong heat at Kokura on July 13, and she had little trouble dispatching her male counterparts in a first run with winners at seven-eighths most recently.

The filly is bred to handle this trip with relative ease, and she has the natural early speed to keep her in contention through the affair, too. Ryan Moore taking the reins is a major positive as well.

Two-time Grade 1 heroine #3 Immersive (3-1) seems like the most logical top-three contender in the field to me and will be a key player with my top pick in the vertical exotics. Trained by Brad Cox, the Nyquist filly is 3-for-3 in her lifetime and passed her two-turn test when bagging the Alcibiades S. (G1) at Keeneland in her most recent performance.

The Godolphin homebred didn’t set the teletimer on fire in the Bluegrass State, but she has worn down her foes late in each career run to this stage of her development and draws well to save ground going into the first turn as well. I expect Manny Franco to have the lass near midpack on the backside before asking his mount for her best approaching the turn for home.

I’ll also include the Baffert duo of #7 Non Compliant (9-2) and #8 Nooni (15-1), who came home first and second, respectively, in the recent Oak Leaf S. (G2) at Santa Anita. The former will be stalking the action early on, while the latter could be the one leading the field from the early stages of the contest and at double-digit odds.
