Buffalo Blasts Continue With $46 Win; Positive Pompano Challenge
Sunday, Feb. 9
Wallyworld IV took place a day after our weekend deadline, so here are the results from those races at Pompano.
There was one scratch, Rockin Machine in Race 3. In Race 1, Wally did not show up. We were fourth with Fritze Pic Up Man, while the favorite won.
We beat Wally in Race 2 with Ira Chief ($3.20, $3.00), coming in second.
A win in Race 5 by our choice, War-n-munn ($14.20, $5.40, $4.60) also beat his mount.
We were second in Race 6 with Garret’s Guide ($3.60, $2.10), while Wally lost again. He won Race 7 with a favorite; we finished fourth with Brigadierbronski (20-1). We lost and Wally lost Race 8. Our fifth-place finisher was Spanish Art (6-1).
Wally won Race 9 (the favorite) to our second, Grand Galop Semalu ($5.40, $4.20) for an exacta worth $12.40.
Thursday, Feb. 13
Wallyworld V at Pompano opened this week’s action. There was one scratch, JP Silver in Race 4, which Wally won on the favorite..
Wally won Race 1 with the second choice; we finished fourth with Roger Pray It (22-1).
We beat Wally in Race 3 with a third, Rompaway Beau ($2.80 and again in Race 7 with JBs Boomerang ($2.80).
Our choice also beat him in Race 8 when we won with Lyons Johnny ($10.60, $4.80, $4.40).
Friday, Feb. 14
At Yonkers we offered three different choices for three different races to use in the various exotics of your choice (also, of course, as win bets). Oddly enough, the results presented one exotics partner, Slick Artist A ($2.30, $2.10), which would up the race favorite as a part of the exacta, trifecta and superfecta. A 12-1 upset the field.
In the remaining two features we were fourth with Gelnferrie Blade A (7-1) behind another 12-1 winner but there was no superfecta in the race; and Ari Allstar (11-1), who finished seventh to the public’s third choice.
Saturday, Feb. 15
At Pocono Downs we repeated our combo Power Plays/features with a trio and once again we were only involved with payoffs in one race. Trixar (7-1) was a member of the $104.94 superfecta combo.
The other two races presented dismal performances from Alex Tye (13-1), finishing seventh, and Hey Jock (3-1), winding up eighth. Both races were taken by 7-1 shots.
H2W LIST RESULTS
The H2W results list across-the-board prices. Also, exactas listed are included when a H2W horse finishes second with a race favorite or the first two finishers making up the exacta are H2W horses (an asterisk appears when both horses were listed to complete a cold exacta). The note “ok” determines that prices published are correct even when a show price exceeds a place price or any or all of the prices are the same. This week, there were 47 active horses (a 13-percent win hit rate and a 38-percent ATB [across-the-board] hit rate).

Gimpanzee, 2019 Breeders Crown winner and our focal point of the Hambletonian division, is preparing for a four-year-old campaign that may include the Elitlopp. Trainer Marcus Melander said he is trying to “work out a good trip to Sweden” for the event. “He’d need to qualify," said Melander. “We still have a really good program here [for him] … If we go to Sweden for the Elitlopp, we’re just going for that race and then he’s coming back to race here all year. . . He’s the kind of horse that would handle it. … obviously it’s a
step up to travel to Europe to race against the best ones over there.”
The Hambletonian Society has announced that purses for the 2020 Breeders Crown Open Mare races have been increased to $300,000. The 2020 edition of the “Crown” will be the second-consecutive year that the purses for the Open Mare races will be $300,000. All two-year-old Crown races are estimated at $600,000. The Crown sophomore events will be raced for $500,000, as will the Crown Trot and Crown Pace. All 12 \Crown races will be contested at Harrah’s Hoosier Park over the course of Friday, October 30 and Saturday, Oct. 31.
Saturday, Feb. 15, was the start of harness racing at Hawthorne Race Course, marking 50 years since the first harness meet at the Stickney, Ill. oval in 1970. The schedule for racing in Illinois takes a slight adjustment this season (due to construction of a new racing and casino venue). The 92-night expanded harness season is nearly eight months due to the area’s physical revisions. In February, live racing goes every Saturday and Sunday evening. In March, Friday evenings will be added, with Hawthorne racing three days per week from March through the meet end on Sunday, Sept. 20.
