Canterbury Park spot plays for Sept. 16
A $41,427 Pick 5 carryover awaits horseplayers at Canterbury Park on Wednesday evening. With competitive races and a low 10% takeout, the Pick 5 is attractive for bettors, and the 50-cent minimum wager begins with the 9TH race at 9:05 p.m. ET.
I’ll build a ticket around some opinions, backing the following horses during the Late Pick 5 sequence.
Race 10 – 9:35 p.m. ET
#7 Campaign Spy (4-1 morning line) was in contention until weakening late against better last time, and he should relish the drop to the $5,000 claiming level. A convincing winner in his next-to-last dirt start for trainer Wade Rarick (21% win rate), the 4-year-old gelding possesses tactical foot, which should ensure a good trip just off the speed to his inside. And with a pair from leading trainer Joel Berndt likely to take betting action, Campaign Spy figures to offer value for straight wagers. I’ll single in the Pick 5.
Race 12 – 10:35 p.m. ET
#6 Royal Privacy (12-1) won both starts on Canterbury’s main track over cheaper rivals earlier in the meet, earning respectable Brisnet numbers, and returns to dirt off an improved effort at this level on turf. I’ll use others in multi-race tickets, but will play the 7-year-old gelding straight if he doesn’t get bet down significantly. In a field lacking pace, Royal Privacy is eligible to steal the race in his second start off the claim for Chris Richard.
