Carryovers: Aqueduct's $19,729 Pick 6, Gulfstream's $12,771 Super High 5
The final weekend of April brings a pair of five-figure, non-jackpot carryovers at Aqueduct and Gulfstream Park.
If you’re looking for enticing bets to play while you wait out the final week before the 2023 Kentucky Derby (G1), these carryovers ought to fit the bill.
Let’s check out both wagers and identify horses to build tickets around:
Gulfstream Park, Race 1: $12,771 Super High 5 carryover (12:40 p.m. ET)
The Saturday card at Gulfstream kicks off with a $25,000 maiden claimer for fillies and mares racing 1 1/16 miles on turf, and there’s a $12,771 carryover up for grabs in the $1 Super High 5.
The nine-horse field doesn’t look overly tough on paper, so we’ll key #1 Hope Over Fear (7-2) on top. The four-year-old filly hasn’t run since last summer, when she ran fifth and sixth in a pair of $40,000 maiden claimers on turf at Saratoga.
Hope Over Fear is dropping down the class ladder in her first start for trainer Fausto Gutierrez, a 33% winner with horses running for the first time under his care. Gutierrez also wins at a sharp 21% rate with horses returning from layoffs of 90 days or more, an encouraging sign. Throw in the fact Hope Over Fear is slated to be ridden by apprentice jockey Angel Morales (who rides with a seven-pound allowance), and Hope Over Fear appears likely to visit the winner’s circle at a nice price.
What is a single, and why are they valuable?

That's a great question!

Aqueduct, Race 4: $19,729 Pick 6 carryover (2:56 p.m. ET)
If you’re looking for a horse to single in the $19,729 Pick 6 carryover at Aqueduct, you’ll want to check out Race 8. The penultimate leg of the $1 wager is a $62,500 allowance optional claimer taking place over one mile on dirt, and #2 Zandon (4-5) looks like a standout in his four-year-old debut.
As a three-year-old last year, Zandon won the Blue Grass (G1) and placed in the Kentucky Derby (G1), Travers (G1), Pennsylvania Derby (G1), Jim Dandy (G2), and Risen Star (G2). His final six starts of the season produced triple-digit Brisnet Speed ratings of 103, 100, 106, 105, 110, and 101.
Considering none of Zandon’s Saturday rivals have posted a Brisnet Speed rating higher than 100, Zandon is easily the fastest horse in the field. He enters off sharp workouts for trainer Chad Brown (a 27% winner with horses returning from layoffs of 90 days or more), so a typical performance from Zandon should be sufficient to take home top honors.
Good luck!
