Chancer McPatrick, East Avenue made co-favorites for KDFW Pool 2; Sire Future Wager on tap
Pool 2 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW), along with the one and only Sire Future Wager, will run concurrently over Thanksgiving weekend.
Opening at noon on Thursday and closing Sunday at 6 p.m. (all times ET), both pools will offer $2 win and exacta wagering for the 2025 Kentucky Derby (G1). Each pool has a total of 40 betting interests.
Pool 2 of the KDFW features 38 individual interests plus an option of “all fillies foaled in 2022” as well as the ever-popular “all other colts and geldings foaled in 2022.” Similarly, the Kentucky Derby Sire Future Wager includes a mutuel field of “all other sires” to complement the list of 39 stallions named as individual interests.
Chancer McPatrick and East Avenue closed as the top two individual choices in KDFW Pool 1, at 9-1 and 11-1 respectively, and they have been tabbed as the 10-1 co-favorites among the named interests in Pool 2. But the morning line assumes that bettors will forgive both for their disappointing efforts in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), where Chancer McPatrick wound up sixth and East Avenue trudged home ninth after a poor start.
In contrast, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Citizen Bull is listed as a 20-1 shot for Pool 2, runner-up Gaming will open at 25-1, and barnstorming third Hill Road commences trade at 30-1.
The overall favorite on the Pool 2 morning line remains the mutuel field of “all other colts and geldings foaled in 2022,” pegged at odds of 4-5 – its closing price in Pool 1.
Several of the individual interests in Pool 2 will be competing during the wagering window. Jonathan’s Way, Tiztastic, Filoso, First Resort, and Render Judgment are all in Saturday’s Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) at Churchill Downs, while Patch Adams runs in a maiden earlier on the Stars of Tomorrow II card. Rated by Merit puts his perfect record on the line at Gulfstream Park on Saturday in the In Reality division of the Florida Sire S.
Citizen Bull’s sire, Into Mischief, rates as the joint morning-line favorite in the Sire Future Wager along with the mutuel field, both tabbed at 12-1. Into Mischief, already responsible for two Kentucky Derby winners in Authentic (2020) and Mandaloun (2021), has a few more sons listed as individual interests in Pool 2 – Barnes, who debuts for Bob Baffert at Churchill on Wednesday; Donut God; Patch Adams; and Sovereignty.
Upcoming KDFW pools are scheduled for Jan. 17-19 (Pool 3); Feb. 14-16 (Pool 4); March 14-16 (Pool 5), running concurrently with the lone Kentucky Oaks Future Wager; and April 3-5 (Pool 6).
