Churchill Downs: $179,981 Single 6 carryover awaits on Thanksgiving Day

November 26th, 2020

Ready to celebrate Thanksgiving Day? If COVID-19 has turned your traditional holiday plans upside down, you can always turn your attention to the Single 6 carryover at Churchill Downs, which has reached $179,981 for Thursday’s card.

If you’re able to construct the only winning ticket on the day, you’ll win the whole six-figure jackpot—definitely something to be thankful for! But even if you’re one of many winning bettors, the payoff should still be sufficient to pay for Thanksgiving dinner and a nice Black Friday shopping spree.

Wednesday recap

Favorites largely struggled during Wednesday’s Single 6 sequence, with only one top betting choice reaching the winner’s circle. Along the way, a pair of odds-on favorites fell to defeat, surely taking down a large number of tickets with them.

But with every winner starting at less than 6-1, the results weren’t particularly shocking either. In the end, the $0.20-cent Single 6 returned $2,712.12, marginally higher than the $2,618.90 generated by a theoretical $2 win parlay across the six winners.

Thursday insights

An 11-race card is on tap for Thanksgiving Day, which means the Single 6 will get underway in Race 6, a 1 1/16-mile starter allowance event. #7 Substantial (5-2) looms as a slight favorite after finishing second over this class level, track, and distance on Oct. 29, beaten just a length after carving out the pace. But #2 Handy (4-1) finished just a head behind, and several others have posted Brisnet Speed ratings quick enough to vie for victory. My advice? Spread as deep as possible to increase your chances of survival.

At least the feature race looks a bit more straightforward. Race 10, the 1 1/8-mile Falls City (G2) for fillies and mares, looks like a battle between the improving 3-year-olds #1 Envoutante (5-2) and #3 Bonny South (8-5). As the lone graded stakes winners in the nine-horse field, they hold a class advantage over their older rivals. Using both should be sufficient to advance in the Single 6.

The sequence wraps up with Race 11, a 6 1/2-furlong allowance sprint. #10 Girolamo’s Attack (7-2) owns the field’s best Brisnet Speed rating, throwing down a 100 when dominating a $32,000 maiden claiming race at Gulfstream Park by 10 lengths. But the 3-year-old gelding could only finish third over this class level on Nov. 1 at Churchill Downs, so victory on Thursday isn’t guaranteed. #3 Motagally (15-1) and #6 Pirate Rick (8-1) are other logical contenders in this competitive heat.

Good luck!
